Week One of the NFL is in the books, and what a week it was!
Let’s focus on the powerful AFC, as six of the last ten Superbowl winners have been AFC-powerhouses.
First, the biggest news of the season; Tom Brady gets injured for the season. We all know by now, the second-effort hit by Pollard of the Chiefs that put tore Brady’s ACL and put him out for the season. This is a huge shift in power, as the former MVP of everything will not be there for the Patriots. Add a convincing Jets win, and the powers to be may not be this year. The one bright side to all this is the Pats still have Randy “No one can cover me” Moss. Take a look to week one and you’ll see how he made backup Cassel look great.
Now let’s look at the second powerhouse in the AFC, the Colts. How is it in the Superbowl rematch, the Bears dominated and bruised up Peyton and company? Well they did. But don’t think that means much; a slow start for the Colts means nothing. They still have the most prolific passer in the game, and great personal to back him up. Don’t think the Colts are done for, and look for them to come back strong against the Vikings in week two.
Now it gets a big interesting. Strong losses by both the Jaguars and the Chargers, and all of a sudden the AfC blows wide open. The Steelers man-handled their opponents and Broncos looked about as sharp as an underrated team could. With Jacksonville getting slammed by the injury-bug, and San Diego unable to hold on to a win, the AFC powerhouses changed dramatically.
